Marina Graham: Sculpture and Imagery
After doing the stucco modelling and also some minor repairs on a few antique cherubs like the one on the left, I decided to have a go at modelling one
completely from scratch out of cement and stone dust. I discovered that this was possible, although a bit slow and extremely bad for the lungs since it
is not easy to keep a dust mask on your face for long hours every day.The result of this experiment can be seen in the string of photos above. In the
end I made a rubber/plaster mould of it in any case and produced half a dozen casts, most of which eventually found homes in various people's gardens.
One or two stood around Walcot Reclamation in Bath for a good while. I finally got tired of storing the mould and threw it away.
